The Houston Rockets select guard Aaron Brooks in the first round

Blogged under Big Rockets News,Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by alleyoop on Saturday 30 June 2007 at 7:03 am

Aaron Brooks was a puzzling pick in the first round for the Rockets as they already have two point guards ahead of him in Mike James and Rafer Alston.  Brooks is a little on the small side at 6’0″, 160 pounds but he’s a tough guy and he proved that in the Pac 10 at Oregon.  Brooks played in 115 games at Oregon and he averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  Brooks also was a good shooter at Oregon as he hit 43% of his shots from the floor, 37.4% from the three point line and 83.4% from the free throw line.  Brooks will likely have a hard time getting playing time as a rookie.

I think Brooks is a good player but the Rockets have a need at power forward and there were some available at their pick that would have made more sense than selecting Brooks. Still, Brooks is a good basketball player and he has a bright future.

aaron brooks has been terrefic. Great pick..they went for the best player. Chances are you arent getting your ideal PF with the 26th pick anyway. Brooks has a chance to be a real good player in this leaugue. Tremendous pick.
