The Rockets have acquired G/F Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings for Bobby Jackson, Donte’ Greene and a future first round draft pick. The trade won’t be completed until August 14th which is the first day that Donte’ Greene is elgible to be traded according to NBA rules. A couple of minor players could also be added to this trade to even out the money. The Rockets are getting a player that is still in his prime at 28 years ago. Artest is a good all around player when he’s focused as he can make an impact at either end of the basketball court. Artest played in 57 games (54 starts) last season for the Kings and he averaged 38.1 minutes, 20.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Artest has a lot of game left and he will make the Rockets a legit contender in the Western Conference in the 2008-09 NBA season. Artest has now played in 535 games (507 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 34.7 minutes, 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

The Houston Rockets sign Brent Barry

The Houston Rockets have signed 36-year old shooting guard Brent Barry to a 2-year contract. Barry played in 31 games (1 start) with the Spurs last season and he averaged 17.9 minutes, 7.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Barry is still a deadeye from 3-point range as he hit 42.9% of his shots from that distance last season. Look for Barry to get more playing time than he did last year in San Antonio. Barry has now played in 856 games (448 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 26.6 minutes, 9.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. This was a good move for the Rockets as Barry will give them some firepower off the bench.
