The Houston Rockets’ rookies showed a lot of potential in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Monday 6 May 2013 at 7:39 am

The rookies on the Rockets didn’t get to play a lot in 2012-13, but they showed a lot of potential for the future.  23-year old point guard Patrick Beverly replaced Jeremy Lin in the playoffs and he played well for the Rockets.  Beverly played in 41 games (0 starts) for the Rockets last year and he averaged 17.4 minutes, 5.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.  He is going to see a spike in P.T. next year.  22-year old power forward Donatas Motiejunas played quite a bit in the middle of his rookie year for the Rockets.  He played in 44 games (14 starts) for the Rockets last year and he averaged 12.2 minutes, 5.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  He had 11 games with at least 10 points and 6 games with at least 5 rebounds last year for the Rockets.  The Rockets dealt for 22-year old power forward Thomas Robinson at the trade deadline, but they didn’t play him that much.  Robinson played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Rockets last year and he averaged 13.0 minutes, 4.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  He played in 70 games (0 starts) overall last year for the Kings and Rockets in which he averaged 15.1 minutes, 4.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  21-year old power forward Terrence Jones was buried on the depth chart for the Rockets in 2012-13.  He played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Rockets last year and he averaged 14.5 minutes, 5.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  24-year old center Tim Ohlbrecht played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Rockets last year and he only averaged 4.0 minutes, 1.0 point, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  You have to wonder if 22-year old power forward Royce White will ever play in a game with the Rockets.  He played in 16 games (8 starts) in the D-League for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and he averaged 25.6 minutes, 11.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.  White only shot 44.4% from the floor and 65.9% from the free throw line in the D-League and that’s not good.  He is afraid to fly, so it’s hard to see him ever playing in the NBA if that doesn’t change in the near future.

Patrick Beverly is playing really well in the playoffs for the Houston Rockets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports,Steppin Up,The NBA Playoffs by joelapinski on Friday 3 May 2013 at 10:46 am

24-year old rookie point guard Patrick Beverly played in 41 games (0 starts) for the Rockets during the regular season and he averaged 17.4 minutes, 5.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.  Beverly is really stepping up in the playoffs so far for the Rockets.  He has played in 5 games (4 starts) for the Rockets so far against the Thunder and he is averaging 33.4 minutes, 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game.  The Rockets hope that Beverly can keep up the good work as he has been solid in replacing Jeremy Lin (bruised chest) in the starting lineup.

Donatas Motiejunas is looking pretty solid latey for the Houston Rockets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports,Steppin Up by joelapinski on Thursday 21 March 2013 at 11:12 am

22-year old rookie PF/C Donatas Motiejunas has looked pretty good lately for the Rockets.  He has played in 31 games (10 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 11.0 minutes, 5.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  In his 10 starts, Motiejunas is averaging 22.5 minutes, 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.  He has moved into the starting lineup since Patrick Patterson was dealt to the Kings and he has done a solid job since.  The Rockets hope that he can keep up the good work.

Royce White’s season is essentially done for the Houston Rockets

Blogged under Big Rockets News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Thursday 21 March 2013 at 11:09 am

21-year old rookie power forward Royce White will be spending the rest of his “rookie” season in Houston, at the advisement of the team physician for the Rockets.  That doesn’t mean that he will play for the Rockets this year.  He played in 12 games (8 starts) for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League this year and he averaged 25.9 minutes, 9.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.  He only shot 41.6% from the floor and 62% from the free throw line for the Valley Vipers this year.  The Rockets probably wish that they never drafted White already.

UPDATE:  (3/27/2013) – The Rockets have sent White back to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League.

The Houston Rockets have a lot of potential among their rookies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Monday 4 March 2013 at 3:42 pm

22-year old power forward Donatas Motiejunas, 21-year old power forward Thomas Robinson, 24-year old point guard Patrick Beverly and 21-year old forward Terrence Jones give the Rockets a lot of talent for the future.  Motiejunas has recently entered the starting lineup for the Rockets.  He has played in 24 games (3 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 8.1 minutes, 4.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  In his first three starts, Motiejunas is averaging 26.6 minutes, 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.  Robinson just came over in a deal with the Kings.  He has played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far and he is averaging 12.7 minutes, 4.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.0 steal per game.  He has now played in 54 games (0 starts) overall for the Kings and Rockets this year and he is averaging 15.7 minutes, 4.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  Beverly has moved into the backup point guard job recently.  He has played in 20 games (0 starts) so far this year for the Rockets and he is averaging 15.4 minutes, 5.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  He is shooting 44.7% from the floor, 42.6% from three point range and 76% from the free throw line so far this year, which is pretty impressive.  Jones has only played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 8.3 minutes, 3.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  But, Jones is only shooting 38.2% from the floor so far this year.  24-year old center Tim Ohlbrecht has recently been signed by the Rockets.  He has played in 1 game off the bench for the Rockets so far this year and he played 6 minutes in which he had 3 points, 1 assist and 1 steal.

The Houston Rockets need Patrick Beverly to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up,Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Thursday 21 February 2013 at 10:24 am

With Toney Douglas getting dealt to the Kings last night, the Rockets need 24-year old Patrick Beverly to step up behind Jeremy Lin at the point.  Beverly has played in 15 games (0 starts) overall this year for the Rockets and he is averaging 13.7 minutes, 4.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  He is only shooting 37.5% from the floor, 32.3% from three point range and 73.7% from the floor so far this year, and that just won’t get the job done.  Beverly has played in 6 games (0 starts) so far in February and he is averaging 17.7 minutes, 5.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  The Rockets need Beverly to keep playing well behind Lin.

The Houston Rockets’ rookies aren’t adding much

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Sunday 27 January 2013 at 11:52 pm

The Rockets have their eyes on making a playoff run, so they don’t have much P.T. available for their rookies. 21-year old power forward Terrance Jones has only played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 8.3 minutes, 3.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He looks like the player with the biggest upside. Especially with Royce White more likely to end up in a looney bin than on the basketball court for the Rockets this year. 22-year old power forward Donatas Motiejunas has played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 3.1 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. 24-year old undrafted rookie Patrick Beverly has played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 11.0 minutes, 4.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

The Houston Rockets waive Scott Machado

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Monday 7 January 2013 at 2:37 pm

The Rockets have waived 22-year old rookie point guard Scott Machado. Machado played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Rockets this year and he averaged 3.5 minutes, 1.3 points, 0.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Machado wasn’t about to get any P.T. any time soon for the Rockets, but they didn’t want to guarantee his contract for the rest of the 2012-13 season.

The Houston Rockets aren’t getting much from the rookies so far in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Saturday 29 December 2012 at 10:59 pm

The Rockets have gotten next to nothing out of their rookies so far this year. 20-year old forward Terrence Jones has played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 8.3 minutes, 3.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He is only shooting 38.2% from the floor and that just isn’t going to get the job done. 22-year old point guard Scott Machado has played in only 3 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 3.0 minutes, 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. 22-year old center Donatas Motiejunas has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 3.6 minutes, 1.7 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game so far this year. Rookie forward Royce White is about to be sent to the D-League. He has yet to play in the NBA due to mental problems. I don’t see any of these guys playing much for the Rockets unless they suffer a lot of injuries.

The Houston Rockets aren’t getting much from their rookies so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Tuesday 20 November 2012 at 3:08 pm

The Rockets have not gotten much production from their rookies so far this year. 20-year old forward Terrence Jones has been the best of the bunch so far this year. He has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 15.8 minutes, 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. But, Jones is only shooting 36% from the floor so far this year. 21-year old PF/C Donatas Motiejunas has only played in 1 game for the Rockets so far this year and he played five minutes in which he scored 3 points. He is currently in the D-League. 21-year old forward Royce White has yet to play for the Rockets so far this year due to mental issues. The Rockets still have high hopes for this trio.
