James Harden is a star the Houston Rockets can build around

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by joelapinski on Thursday 6 June 2013 at 11:17 am

23-year old shooting guard James Harden is a star that the Rockets can build around and they have not had one of them in a long time.  Harden played in 78 games (all starts) for the Rockets last year and he averaged 38.3 minutes, 25.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game.  Harden has now played in 298 games (85 starts) in his first four years in the NBA and he is averaging 29.7 minutes, 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  The Rockets rescued Harden, as he would have never gotten the chance to be the kind of player he is right now if he still played with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Starting point guard Jeremy Lin bruised his chest in Game #2 against the Thunder and he could be limited in the rest of the series.  Lin has played in 2 games (both starts) for the Rockets so far in this series against the Thunder and he is averaging 26.0 minutes, 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  Regardless of how much Lin can play moving forward, rookie Patrick Beverly is going to play a lot.  He has played in 2 games (1 start) against the Thunder so far in this series and he is averaging 34.5 minutes, 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.  Lin needs to bite the bullet and show some toughness.

Carlos Delfino has helped the Houston Rockets off the bench in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by joelapinski on Tuesday 16 April 2013 at 1:36 pm

30-year old SG/SF Carlos Delfino was considered a small signing for the Rockets last summer, but he has really been an asset off the bench for them in 2012-13.  He has played in 66 games (5 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 25.4 minutes, 10.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  Delfino has played in 4 games (0 starts) so far in April for the Rockets and he is averaging 24.8 minutes, 12.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  Delfino is going to be a big part of the bench in the playoffs, so the Rockets hope he gets hot.

James Harden continues to roll for the Houston Rockets

Greg Smith has been a solid backup for the Houston Rockets so far in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by joelapinski on Thursday 28 March 2013 at 7:39 am

22-year old center Greg Smith is turning into a very solid backup center.  He was a beast last night in the Rockets’ loss to the Pacers as he played 32 minutes in which he had 18 points and 19 rebounds.  Smith has now played in 59 games (0 starts) for the Rockets so far this year and he is averaging 14.4 minutes, 5.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  Smith is shooting better from the floor (63.1%) than he is from the free throw line (61.6%) so far this year.  If Smith can keep up the good work, the Rockets can watch Omer Asik’s workload the rest of the way in 2012-13.
